Lack of trust reportedly leads frosh corner from The U to WVU

Feeling “like he couldn’t trust their coaches anymore,” true freshman Vernon Davis requested a release from his Miami scholarship last Friday.

Tuesday, that request was granted, and it appears the cornerback knows exactly where he’s headed to continue his playing career.

While it has yet to be officially announced by West Virginia, multiple media outlets are confirming that Davis is transferring from the Hurricanes to the Mountaineers.  Miami coaches reportedly spent the past couple attempting to talk the player off the transfer ledge to no avail.

Davis’ Florida high school coach, Chevas Clements, told the Miami Herald that his former player “wasn’t happy” as he watched himself slide down the depth chart while simultaneously seeing Miami heavily recruiting players from his same position and from the same area.

However, in Morgantown, his former coach believes he has a much better chance of starting.

“At West Virginia they got two walk-ons who are backups,” Clements told the Herald. “He knows he’s got a much better chance to get on the field there.”

Not a much better chance this year, however, as Davis, who was a three-star member of Miami’s 2012 recruiting class, will be forced to sit out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
