LeSean McCoy tells white lie to cheer up teammates
After suffering an unexpected loss against the Vikings Sunday, Eagles stud running back LeSean McCoy decided to have some fun with his teammates on the flight home.
The Eagles, who currently lead the NFC East with an 8-6 record, lost 48-30 to a Vikings team playing at home without Adrian Peterson. On the plane home, McCoy had internet access on his cell phone, and told all his teammates that the Cowboys had defeated the Packers, which would have left both teams at 8-6 heading into the final two weeks of the season.
However, the Cowboys did not really beat the Packers – they instead suffered an epic collapse, losing 37-36 after leading 26-3. When Shady finally came clean, he said the prank lifted the Eagles’ spirits a little bit, knowing they were still in first place after the surprising loss.
Via Pro Football Talk:
“Because nobody knew except for me, so whatever I said they had to believe,” McCoy told Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese of 94WIP on Monday night. “I was just joking with some of the players. When I was talking to Chip [Kelly] and Howie [Roseman], I was serious.”
“It definitely did [helped our spirits],” McCoy said. “I didn’t feel like a loss either. If you lose, you don’t want to talk. So, it didn’t feel like a loss, which is bad to say I guess.”
If the Eagles had managed to beat the Vikings, and then were able to win this week against the Bears, the Week 17 matchup against the Cowboys wouldn’t have mattered. The Eagles definitely dodged a bullet with the Cowboys meltdown, and they still control their own playoff destiny.
