Manning to workout for the Broncos
Per a report from ESPN”s Adam Schefter, Peyton Manning will meet with the Broncos again today in Durham NC at Duke University where he will meet with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, VP John Elway, GM Brian Xanders, QB Coach Adam Gase, Head Coach John Fox and the Broncos medical staff.
Manning will not only meet with the team, but he will forgo the only workout yet on his search for a new team. Team officials say that this does not make them the leader in the race, but it does give them a sense of where he’s at health-wise in order for them to move forward with their plans.
Manning has been linked to Denver, Arizona, Tennessee and Miami. The Dolphins announced they are no longer in the hunt for Manning and that they will move forward with their plans. An earlier report indicated that Manning was leaning towards the Titans and that he was already in contract talks. While the report may not be true, it is apparent that there has been minuscule contract talks with every team he’s been in contact with.
The plane that meets Manning at Duke today lands at 1:14 Eastern Time, just three hours prior to the deadline the Cardinals have to pick up the option on QB Kevin Kolb.
Denver and Tennessee are looking like the favorites right now, but as we’ve seen in this whole “Manning Watch” things can change in an instant. It has been rumored as well that Tennessee has offered Manning a “lifetime” contract, guaranteeing him a job after his retirement. I’m not sure how that falls into the CBA, but I don’t think that will be a deciding factor for Peyton.
One more thing – if Manning makes his decision today, coincidentally it is March 16, or 3-16. The day Tebow may learn his fate. Think about it!
