Maurice Jones Drew has surgery; out until at least May
Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones Drew, who has already missed most of this season with a foot injury, will now be out of action until at least May after he had another surgery on his left foot. This is just another blow to an already miserable season for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jones Drew suffered a left foot injury in an October 21st matchup against the Oakland Raiders. Questions have been raised across the board about why the team didn’t opt for surgery earlier than now, with the team stating that they hoped for his return before the season ended. Surgery would have made that out of the question, so they waited.
Now that the Jaguars miserable 2012 season (2-13 as of Friday) is a few days from being over with just one game to go against division rival Tennessee, Jones Drew had foot surgery on Friday. According to head coach Mike Mularkey, he is expected to return to team activities in “Late May, early June hopefully”. Mularkey has a strict policy about not discussing player injuries.
“There’s just some space in his foot,” Mularkey said. “They wanted to keep it healing on its own. I don’t know all the medical terms. There’s a lot of things going on in the foot. Something that you hoped would naturally go back didn’t, so we’re going to hold it in place.”
After Jones Drew led the league in rushing in 2011, he ends 2012 with 414 yards and one touchdown. The Jaguars will finish the season ranked 30th in rushing yards.
