McNabb: Philly is finding out that getting to the playoffs isn’t easy

Prior to the 2010 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins. Despite reaching the playoffs in eight of the eleven seasons he was starting in Philadelphia, the Eagles gave up on McNabb and traded him. Originally, it seemed as though fans in Philadelphia were happy to see McNabb leave town. Since then, the Eagles have missed the playoffs in two out of their three McNabb-less years. Now, McNabb believes the fans in Philadelphia are probably missing him as their starter.

“Making it to the NFC Championship is not easy, and I think they’re starting to see that right now, that getting to the playoffs and going to the NFC Championship consistently, it’s just not that easy,” McNabb said on Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia. “There are teams right now who have winning records, like the Atlanta Falcons, they’ve done it for so many years, and they get to the playoffs and all of a sudden they’re one-and-done.”

McNabb says it’s foolish to judge a quarterback harshly just because he never won a Super Bowl.

“Myself, Dan Marino, there are a lot of quarterbacks who have gotten to that point and just haven’t been able to bring it home,” he said. “People want to make it look like you have nothing to show for it. Well we have a lot to show for it.”

Judging McNabb on never winning a championship is not smart. It seems as though all of the problems the Eagles have had over the last two years would not have happened if McNabb was starting. Of course, the defense would not be improved under McNabb but the offense would certainly be improved.

The Eagles are currently 27th in points per game and have a -23 turnover ratio.

If McNabb was there, the Eagles would be in a better position than they are right now.

Maybe it is time for the fans of the Eagles to forgive McNabb and realize how great he made their team.
