Oklahoma State lost the Cotton Bowl but will still get rings
Winning a ring is usually associated with being named the winner of a Championship game be it the Super Bowl, World Series or NBA Finals. It’s not common to award rings to the losing team.
But that’s what the Oklahoma State Cowboys are doing. The Cowboys lost the 2014 Cotton Bowl 41-31 to the Missouri Tigers back in January. Yet, despite the loss the team is going to be receiving the rings shown below to “honor the accomplishments of the season and no the outcome of one game”.
Granted, the Cowboys did have a great season. But I’m not sure if awarding them rings when they lost the biggest game of the season is really the best idea. It sends a mixed message, ‘it’s OK to come second when it really matters’.
