Patriots Changing their Logo
On the eve of the Fourth of July, the Patriots have released their new team logo. This symbol has shifted the “flying Elvis” to the middle of the logo and replaced the old white, cursive lettering with blue, bold lettering.
While, on its face, it may seem as if the Patriots are coming out with this change as a final means of distancing themselves from the “old” Aaron Hernandez Patriots, that is definitely not the main reason. Although the Hernandez scandal may have been a contributing factor, the Patriots have already done more than enough to show that they do not in any way condone the actions of their former player (i.e. releasing him, challenging his pay, and the free jersey swap). The reason behind this logo change, as is the case with almost all NFL franchise decisions…money.
Now that the Patriots have come out with this new symbol, fans will have to purchase new gear in order to be “up to date”. This serves as a new revenue stream for the franchise…which they should probably spend on finding new, less injury-prone or prison-bound tight ends…
