Patriots Lock Down Aqib Talib For a Year
After playing 6 games with New England in 2012, the Patriots saw enough in Talib to sign him to a one-year $5 million contract.
Talib, 27, was drafted in 2008 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played four seasons with them before being traded to New England late in the 2012 season. The first time an opposing quarterback threw in his direction, it was a pick six for the Kansas product.
This is a great opportunity for Aqib as he is given the chance to make some bank for this season while proving to other teams that he’s a valid corner up for grabs in the 2014 season. One thing he’ll have to fix, an interesting statistic, is that opposing quarterbacks averaged a passer rating of 103.7 when throwing it Talib’s way. Apparently the Patriots are confident in his ability to bring that number down for the upcoming season.
