Redskins’ Quarterback RGIII tweeks injured knee on FedEx Field’s terrible turf in playoff loss

You would think that field conditions would not be an issue in a wild-card playoff game on a dry surface, but that assumption is far from the truth as FedEx Field strikes again where it hurts the most.

There were flocks of ‘Tweets’ as  many blamed the field conditions for Robert Griffin III’s knee injury.  It’s not a terrible argument as the field has tortured the careers of many.  The most recent victims of FedEx Field are RB Adrian Peterson with a season ending ACL injury, DE Chris Clemons with an ACL injury, and the latest, QB RGIII with a knee injury.  RGIII had agitated his knee weeks prior, but the field conditions at home did not help.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says neither team expressed any issue with the playing conditions Sunday.

“It is the responsibility of the home team to maintain the field, ” Aiello said.  “It’s a grass field.  It’s winter.  There were no complaints about it by either team.  Injuries occur, unfortunately, on every field.”

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll agrees with many that the field conditions were terrible.

“It was horrible,” Carroll said.  ” It was as bad as a field can get for being dry.  It’s too bad, and we deserve better.  It was just worn out.  There was a lot of slipping and all that kind of stuff, and it’s relative.  It didn’t change the game at all in my opinion because it’s relative for both sides.  It was kind of like dirt on top of grass.”

He also went on to say the field conditions were worse than Chicago’s Soldier Field two years ago.

Hopefully the Redskins organization can remedy the field issues, as they could host more big playoff games in the future now that they have the potential of many post season appearances to come.
