Pro Bowler Larry Fitzgerald Signs Restructured Contract with the Arizona Cardinals
Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has restructured his contract per his Twitter feed; in fact, he says it was his first order of business as soon as he returned from New York City:
It is no surprise the Cardinals wanted to create cap room in 2014, as most projections had them $3 million over the cap as the NFL entered the offseason. Fitzgerald’s contract was a prime target as he was an $18 million cap hit for 2014, but with the $2 million signing bonus penalty coming off the books after 2015, the Cardinals may have given him another signing bonus. Fitzgerald’s cap hit for 2015 is already at $21.3 million so the team is certainly positioning themselves to win in the 2014 season. If the Cardinals do win Super Bowl next year, fans can look to Fitzgerald for providing the jump start that enabled them to make moves this offseason.
UPDATE: Per Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, Fitzgerald’s contract frees up $10 million in cap space in 2014, with Fitzgerald receiving an $11.75 million signing bonus in the restructure:
