Raiders RB Mike Goodson rushed to hospital after vicious hit

The Raiders are running their eighth straight practice in pads and have yet to encounter a serious injury this far into training camp, and they hope the news stays the same after RB Mike Goodson was rushed to the hospital after an apparent helmet-to-helmet hit that left Goodson down for over fifteen minutes.

CSN’s Paul Gutierrez writes:

Raiders running back Mike Goodson was injured in practice Tuesday after an apparent helmet-to-helmet collision with linebacker Philip Wheeler.

Goodson, 25, stayed down on the field for approximately 15 minutes while being attended to by trainers and paramedics. He was strapped to a backboard after having his facemask removed. Goodson was observed moving his legs before being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher.

The Raiders have not made a public statement about his condition as of yet.

Goodson, the former Carolina Panther, is competing for a backup role behind running back Darren McFadden.

Raiders Head Coach Dennis Allen said that he didn’t witness the hit, but he heard it. He also adds that football is a violent sport, and people don’t want to see these types of injuries, but it unfortunately happens.

Goodson was acquired from the Panthers in late-March when the team sent OL Bruce Campell to Carolina.

More details will be made available as they come.

Update 1: Reports out of Oakland indicate that the injury is to the neck, and he does have movement to his extremities.

Update 2: Goodson’s Sister, Amber said that her brother is doing good as of now.
