Reggie Bush: The Lions Have the Talent to Win the Super Bowl

  • Tad Johnson

Well, Reggie Bush certainly isn’t pulling his punches when it comes to his expectations in 2013.

First, on Monday Bush said that the Lions should have the #1 offense in the league and then followed that up with very high expectations.. . the Super Bowl.

“Honestly, I don’t think we’re far at all. We have the guys here to be able to win a Super Bowl. There’s a lot that has to go into this season, this team, this off-season, before we can even think about that,” he said. “Right now, we just have to think about doing the little things right and coming together, building that chemistry that’s going to help us coming down into the season when we’re down by a touchdown in the fourth quarter with a minute to go and we have to drive a whole football field. Those little things right now are going to help us during the season.”

Pretty big talk for a team that finished 4-12 and at the bottom of the NFC North last season. I have doubts that the team has improved enough to even sniff the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl this year.  Their offensive line is pathetic and after Calvin Johnson, their wide receiver depth is pitiful. Then again.. when you have Calvin Johnson (who, by the way, had an incredible 2012 allegedly with broken fingers) wide receiver depth isn’t your first priority. It wouldn’t hurt to get him some help, though.

Bush isn’t the only person with high expectations in Detroit, either. Although Vice Chairman Bill Ford Jr. wasn’t quite so forward about it and instead decided to go the politically correct, the-way-management-always-talks way.

“Well, you have to go into every season expecting you have a chance to win, and we do,” Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr. said Tuesday, via the Detroit Free Press. “And then we’ll let it all be decided on the field. But I very much like the talent and the coaching staff we have together.”

While Reggie Bush is a good addition to a team desperately lacking in rushing power, I’m curious as to how they’re going to fill their other holes. I do think Detroit will improve this year, but Reggie Bush needs to slow down a bit instead of playing the “we’re the best team in the league” hype man card. Although he did follow it up by saying that they need to take it slow and make things happen, which takes away that nasty “prediction” aura from his statement.

What do you think?
Is Reggie Bush off his rocker?
Or is he seeing something no one else is?

Are the Lions playoff bound? Super Bowl bound?
