Report: Kellen Winslow failed Patriots physical

Michael Hoomanawanui is the newest Patriots tight end, but he might not have been the first choice for the job.

Mary Paoletti of CSNNewEngland.com reports that Kellen Winslow failed his physical when the team brought him in for a look on Tuesday.

We don’t know if he would have been signed had the physical gone better. Winslow’s visit was being viewed as the Patriots doing due dilligence for their emergency list, but perhaps that became the idea once the team found out the condition of Winslow’s knee after multiple operations over the years.

Winslow has to now search elsewhere if he wants to find a team for the 2012 NFL season. Chances are Winslow will land somewhere but that might not happen until a starting tight end is injured.

Paoletti also reports that Visanthe Shiancoe will be placed on injured reserve with the designated to return provision that would allow him to rejoin the team after eight weeks.
