Report: San Francisco 49ers Jim Harbaugh Hospitalized for “Irregular Heartbeat”
Per a report from Antonio Gonzalez of the Associated Press, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has been taken to Stanford Hospital for what has been termed a “minor procedure” after it was discovered he had an irregular heartbeat. The team said they believe Harbaugh should be back at the team facility by Friday, although it was not immediately apparent if the heart procedure would impact his role with the team in the upcoming week. Players were surprised by the announcement, with All Pro linebacker Patrick Willis commenting that the coach seemed fine and had sat behind him in a meeting.
‘It’s one of those things that, like Coach Harbaugh always tells us, he’s tougher than a $2 steak. ‘We know he’s going to be alright. We know we have a bunch of great coaches here that keep everything on track, and we’re going to practice today as if he was here.”
Harbaugh, who is 48-years old, won the 2011 Coach of the Year award in his first season with the 49ers after guiding them to a 13-3 record and a berth in the NFC Championship game. He has guided the 49ers to a 6-2-1 record this season, and they currently sit atop of the NFC West. The 49ers will host the Chicago Bears this Sunday, and although the team has not commented publicly on Harbaugh’s availability for the game, it is expected he will be performing his normal head coaching duties.
