Report: The Detroit Lions Ink Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson to a Seven-Year Extension

Per a report from ESPN, the Detroit Lions have extended their outstanding wide receiver Calvin Johnson to a seven-year extension, keeping him with the team until 2019. Johnson, who was drafted out of Georgia Tech by the Lions with the second pick of the 2007 NFL draft, has been one of the top NFL receivers since he arrived. The two-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl wide receiver led the NFL in receiving yards in 2011, and has led the Lions every year in receiving since the 2008 season. The extension of Johnson was vital to the Lions offense, as his presence on the field dictates double teams and opens up other facets of their offense. Combined with quarterback Matt Stafford, the two have formed a fearsome duo, with Johnson accounting for 1,681 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in 2011. Over his career, Johnson has amassed 366 receptions for 5,872 yards and 49 touchdowns in 76 games. The deal is reportedly worth $130 million.
