Richard Sherman calls Roddy White “an easy matchup”
During their divisional round match-up, Seattle Seahawks corner back Richard Sherman and Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White were in each other’s faces. While speaking to NFL Live today, according to Sherman, that day, covering White was an easy one.
“He’s an easy match-up. He’ll be another easy match-up next year,” Sherman said of White on NFL Live. “This is just fact.”
White caught five passes for 76 yards and a touchdown but only one of those catches came while he was covered by Sherman. Furthermore, Sherman says when the Falcons did get the ball to White they had to disguise the plays because the team knew they couldn’t just throw to White if he was covered one-on-one by Sherman.
“You saw the game — he caught one pass on me the whole game,’ Sherman said. “It’s probably a lifetime achievement for him, so congratulations. It’s a rarity. It’ll rarely ever happen. I think we play them again next year. It won’t happen again. They have to hide him in the formation. They have to bring him down. He can’t just stand out there and play receiver. They have to hide him and do everything to get him open.”
The Falcons went on to win the game 30-28 before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the conference championship.
The Falcons and Seahawks will meet next year in a match-up in Atlanta.
Even though the smack talk is happening in February, I am sure White will remember what Sherman said today.
Sherman seems to like to run his mouth, but, sometimes that is what the best players do.
