Saints’ Darren Sproles ruled out 4-6 weeks
Just when things couldn’t get any worse for the struggling New Orleans Saints, it did yesterday as the team announced that RB Darren Sproles would not suit up Monday Night vs. the Eagles with a broken hand that required surgery.
The surgery was low-key, and announced after it was already complete, but the team didn’t announce how long Sproles would be sidelined.
Per Rotoworld, Sproles is out 4-6 weeks, but he may return sooner if all things go well.
The Saints are 2-5 on the season and have not yet given up their hopes of representing themselves in the Playoffs, although the chances are very slim.
The NFC South-leading-and-undefeated Atlanta Falcons have all but mathematically eliminated the rest of their division, so the Saints would have to enter as a Wildcard team. With the strength in the NFC, the chances of that happening are next to none.
Losing Sproles sets this team back further than they were, but they’re fortunate they didn’t trade away Pierre Thomas as was rumored or they’d be set back even further. While Thomas is no Sproles, he’ll get his touches and the Saints will still have a few options at the position, including the less than stellar first round pick in 2011 Mark Ingram Jr, who has yet to break out like many thought he would.
