It’s well known that the New Orleans Saints are without it’s Head Coach in Sean Payton. It’s also known that Assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt will be the teams Interim Head Coach, but he will be serving a six-game suspension once the season starts.
The unknown, was who would be calling the shots in Vitt’s absence. Many thought it would have been OC Paul Carmichael or DC Steve Spagnuolo, fresh off his Head Coaching stint with the Rams.
Per ProFootballTalk, the Saints have named their offensive line coach Aaron Kromer it’s Interim-Interim Head Coach (that sounds kind of funny, doesn’t it) while Joe Vitt honors his suspension from the league.
Kromer has been with the Saints since 2008, where he was the Running Backs coach before making the change to offensive line a year later, in 2009. He has been a coach in the NFL since 2001 when he was a member of the Oakland Raiders offensive line staff.
Kromer has been interviewed for several Head Coaching jobs, most recently with the St Louis Rams. His Interim-Interim tag marks a first in the Leagues history.
Vitt will resume his duties in week seven, upon his return.
