San Francisco 49ers Chris Culliver Arrested
Per a report confirmed by CSN Bay Area, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Cullver has been arrested in San Jose, California for felony hit-and-run and weapons possession charges. KTVU TV 2, who originally broke the news, reported Culliver allegedly struck a bicyclist and attempted to flee the scene. After being stopped by an eyewitness, he allegedly threatened the person with brass knuckles before getting back in his car and driving away, striking the eyewitness’ bicycle. The police arrested Culliver without incident, and the bicyclist was treated and released with minor injuries.
The 49ers general manager, Trent Baalke, released a statement:
The 49ers organization is aware of the recent matter involving Chris Culliver. We will remain in contact with Chris and the local authorities as we continue to gather the facts regarding this situation. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will reserve further comment at this time.
This is not the first time Culliver has had the eyes of the 49ers front office cast his way. During the Media Day prior to the Super Bowl in 2012, Culliver made anti-gay comments, stating:
No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do…. Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can’t be…in the locker room man. Nah.
Later that off-season, Culliver made offensive comments to women on Instagram, a situation which was handled internally by the 49ers.
Culliver was originally drafted by the 49ers in the 3rd round (80th overall) in the 2011 NFL draft out of the University of the South Carolina. Over 32 games from 2011-12, he had 82 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery to go with 21 passes defensed. He was projected to be a starting cornerback in 2013 before tearing his ACL in training camp.
