Sean Payton is getting divorced
The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Sean Payton, the Saints head coach, has filed for divorce from his wife, Beth, according to a petition from Tarrant County, Texas on June 14.
The report cites Payton’s reasons as “discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.” Beth filed a counter-petition asking for “exclusive right to designate the primary residence of the children in Tarrant County, Texas.”
Beth Payton is also asking for the exclusive right to make decisions about the medical, legal and educational interests of the couple’s two children, and she has requested that Sean Payton pay child support.
The article also indicates that Payton, who was suspended for the 2012 season for his role in the Bountygate scandal, has already moved out of his Westlake, Texas home, where he lived with Beth and his two kids Meghan and Connor.
The couple previously lived in New Orleans when Payton took the head coaching job for the Saints. In his book Home Team: Coaching the Saints and New Orleans Back to Life, the Saints’ coach wrote, “Whenever you take a new coaching job and you have a young family, you really spend a year away from them, at least to some degree. You’re starting the new job. You have to sell your old house. So you lose a good part of a year.”
It seems as though Payton’s 2012 just went from bad to worse. Hopefully, the year picks up for the Saints head coach.
