‘Skins TE Fred Davis Out, Chris Cooley Re-signs
With a season ending Achilles tendon injury to Redskins Tight End Fred Davis, Chris Cooley is welcomed back to Washington after being cut back on August 28th. Davis finishes his 2012 season with 24 catches for 325 yards.
“I had a lot of things I wanted to do this year, and I was doing it,” said Davis. “It’s very discouraging.”
Davis was injured in the first half of Sunday mornings’ 27-23 loss to the Giants. He was helped off the field, then onto a trainer’s table before being carted off to the locker room. Going into this week, Davis was Washington’s leading receiver with 23 catches for 312 yards. He left the game with 1 catch for 13 yards.
Cooley passed his physical Monday morning and was signed back to Washington shortly after. He had eight catches last season for 65 yards in 5 games, as injuries sidelined him for the rest of the year. In his 8 years in the NFL, all with Washington, Cooley has 428 catches for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns, ranking him 5th all time on the Redskins’ receptions list.
