Source: Philadelphia Eagles Shopping Asante Samuel
According to multiple sources this morning, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to trade Asante Samuel. The eagles would like to move him before the NFL Draft that starts one week from Thursday. I would suspect that they are trying to receive a draft pick, or two in a trade for the Pro-Bowl cornerback.
Anyone who knows about the situation knows this is no surprise. Samuel has asked for a larger role on defense, as he was used at times in a nickel package last season.
Samuel, who has led the NFC in interceptions in two of the past three years, is scheduled to make $9.9 million this season. He attended the Eagles’ voluntary workouts this week.
The nine-year veteran has 45 career interceptions, including nine in 2009 and seven in 2010, and five career touchdowns. He picked off a career-high 10 passes for the New England Patriots in 2006. New England wouldn’t sign and he landed with the Eagles for a few reasons, one being that they didn’t want to pay Samuel’s a big salary, but does New England want to pay for anyone?
Samuel came out at the voluntary workouts on Monday and said “I love it here, this is my home” this doesn’t sound like a guy that wants to leave Philadelphia.
Adam Schefter tweet:
“Eagles have been shopping CB Asante Samuel in recent days, according to NFL sources around league. Eagles looking to make trade before draft”
Samuel would be great for a team that could use a dependable corner that can make plays. I know Champ Bailey in Denver would love to play with him; in fact if they could add a corner with Samuel’s ability that could take some of the pressure off of Peyton Manning and the Broncos offense.
