Source: Tom Benson could sue if Payton leaves
Although there are still four weeks left in football’s regular season, there’s already plenty of heat rising when it comes to coaching changes this offseason. Philadelphia’s Andy Reid and San Diego’s Norv Turner, among others, are the subjects of many reports and prognostications that they will not be with their teams beyond this season.
One coach that could be looking for a new home is suspended New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton. Early last month, the NFL voided the contract extension that Payton signed due to the suspension placed on Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. Apparently, the Saints are prepared to fire back against the NFL in order to keep the head coach that led the team to a victory in Super Bowl 44. ESPN’s Ed Werder tweeted earlier today that Saints owner Tom Benson is reportedly willing to take action against the NFL should Payton end up leaving the Saints for another team this offseason.
Very good source tells me that Saints owner Tom Benson would sue league for millions if Sean Payton allowed to leave for Dallas or elsewhere

There is a lot of drama swirling right now over who will be coaching the Saints in 2013. Obviously the team wants Payton to return, and Benson’s actions are a clear indication of that. However, speculation still runs rampant that Payton could return to Dallas, where he was an assistant under Bill Parcells for three seasons. Stay tuned once the season ends, because the coaching carousel is going to be operating at full speed this offseason.
