After a fast start to the 2012 NFL season, one in which Stephen Hill had two touchdowns and 89 yards on five receptions, the rest of his rookie season was a disappointment. Hill finished the year with just 21 receptions for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also only played eleven games during his rookie campaign and had zero receptions in five of those games.

While the lack of a quarterback could explain Hill’s struggles, he believes he was having a hard time learning the game, while dealing with nagging injuries and the constant New York media.

“It’s not hard, it’s just annoying,” Hill said. “We’re always on ESPN for something, and it was just a lot. It put pressure on learning, and then having to explain if I messed up, so that’s where most of the pressure was. It probably did throw me off during games, you’re just out there running. That’s what it felt like. I was out there running but I didn’t understand the whole football concept.”

Although Hill describes the media as “annoying”, he is going to have to learn to deal with them if he expects to succeed in New York.

The best way to quiet the media in New York is to have more than 21 receptions during a season.

Hill, who was the Jets second round pick in 2012, may continue to struggle this season due to the fact that there is no stability at the quarterback position.
