T.J. Ward: We’re trying to be one of the best defenses in the world
As free agency began in March, the Denver Broncos made a big splash by signing Pro-Bowl safety T.J. Ward from the Cleveland Browns. As free agency went on, the Broncos also signed bigger names by adding corner back Aqib Talib from New England and DeMarcus Ware from Dallas. The Broncos went all in trying to improve on a defense that ranked 22nd in points allowed per game and gave up 43 points to the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
According to T.J. Ward, the Broncos’ new and improved defense is trying to make a statement from pre-season game one and show the league that they have to worry about more than just Peyton Manning when they face the Broncos. Ward also thinks this Broncos team can be one of the best defenses in the world.
“As good as the Broncos offense was last year, you see what happens when you get put up against a stout defense and an offense that can pretty much manage and make some plays here and there,” Ward said, via Tom Pelissero of USA Today. “We’re sending a message right now that we’re coming in not only trying to be one of the top offenses in the league, but one of the top defenses in the world and get that Super Bowl ring.”
This Broncos team will have to stay healthy if they expect to compete for a Super Bowl ring. If healthy, the Broncos have one of the best defensive units in the NFL and should cause terror for opposing quarterbacks. If Denver has a top-10 offense and defense, it will be hard to imagine they will miss the Super Bowl in 2014.
