Friday looks to be a bad day for college football and arrests. First, came the news that Georgia’s running back Isiah Crowell was arrested on felony gun possession charges.

Now, it is Texas A&M’s turn to face news of an arrest. Texas A&M freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel was arrested early Friday morning on charges of possessing a fake driver’s license, failure to identify himself and for fighting.

Manziel, who’s competing for the starting job with sophomore Jameill Showers, was arrested at 3:24 a.m. this morning by College Station police in the Northgate bar district. Manziel redshirted last season at A&M after starring at Kerrville Tivy High, where he a was Parade All-American.

The Aggies open their season on August 30 against Louisiana Tech in Shreveport, La. Earlier this week A&M’s coach Sumlin announced that linebacker Steven Jenkins and safety Howard Matthews each had been suspended for an unspecified game for violation of team rules.

Whether or not Manziel will be suspended has yet to be announced but it seems likely that he will face some sort of disciplinary actions for fighting. More news on his possible suspensions will come when it is available.
