Last week didn’t quite fare so well for my Top 5 TE’s of the week as Aaron Hernandez fell to an injury and Norv Turner pulled a shocker on the world as he held Antonio Gates out of the game, but I feel much better about this week’s list. So without further ado, I present to you the Top 5 guys of the week.

5. Brent Celek

Michael Vick has been known to ignore his Tight Ends and chuck the ball downfield. Andy Reid stressed during the off season that would not longer be the case, and so far it’s proven to be true. Celek was targeted eight times last week and brought in 157 yards. He didn’t score a touchdown, but his production still garnished 15 points (ESPN Standard Scoring). This week the Eagles will play the Cardinals, who let a few big plays go to tight ends last week. The Jeremy Maclin injury proves to be a positive for Celek as well, he’ll get more looks if Maclin can’t go.

4. Jason Witten

Witten hasn’t been 100% with a spleen injury, but he’s getting better every week. Last week his production quadrupled on ten targets from Tony Romo. With Witten a week better, and Romo showing that he’s still the guy he wants to get the ball to, the ceiling is high.

3. Vernon Davis

Vernon Davis exploded last week with 78 yards and two touchdowns. He still remains a great option for Alex Smith and film shows he’s essential to what they do on offense. His 19 points (ESPN Standard Scoring) was impressive as well as the highest performance from the position last week, and he’s going up a Vikings secondary that has allowed nearly 500 yards and two touchdowns to tight ends this season. I expect him to have another monstrous game.

2. Jimmy Graham

Graham gathered 13 points (ESPN Standard Scoring) on seven targets for 71 yards and a touchdown last week in New Orleans loss to Carolina, but Brees showed that despite the score, Graham would be a gear to get things going. This week they face the Chiefs who have given up the fourth most points to tight ends in the league, plus they’re playing at home and Drew Brees and company are hungry for that first win. I think they get things going on offense and Graham has another great day.

1. Rob Gronkowski

Despite a loss last week, Gronk was a positive for his fantasy owners. He didn’t have quite the yardage but he still put up a solid 13 points (ESPN Standard Scoring) This week they face the Ravens who let 200 yards go to tight ends last week and the Patriots look to target Gronkowski more as Aaron Hernandez is expected to miss a month with a high ankle sprain. The team did bring in Kellen Winslow JR. but with the short notice, I expect Gronk to get the Lions share of work on Sunday.

Sleeper: Brandon Pettigrew – He hasn’t been the most flashy of tight ends this year, but he is a favorite target for Matt Stafford in the redzone. This week they play the Titans who have given up the most fantasy points to the position so far this year.
