Trent Richardson promises fans are going to love him in 2014
After being traded for a first rounder on September 18 last season, the Indianapolis Colts and their fans were expecting to get a quality running back. Instead, they got a running back who battled injuries for 14-weeks and only rushed for 458 yards and 1 touchdown. While expecting a running back worthy of a first-round pick, Richardson struggled to beat out Donald Brown for a majority of the carries.
With Brown signing with San Diego during the off-season, Richardson will be receiving a majority of the carries in Indianapolis this season.
While talking with Yahoo’s Shutdown Corner, Richardson said he is going to do anything he can to make the Colts better.
“I know there are going to be ups and downs, but I am just trying to make it mostly ups. I am going to do anything I can to make this team better.”
Richardson even admitted that while fans were ready to love him last year and were disappointed, he guarantees they will love him this year.
“A year ago, they were ready to love me. And this year, they are going to love me — I guarantee it,” Richardson said. “From where I was even a few months ago to now, there’s no turning back.”
It may sound like Richardson is just talking himself up, but even his quarterback Andrew Luck is praising Richardson this pre-season.
“He runs the heck out of the ball, he’s great getting out on routes and catching it, so he’s going to have a great, great year,” Luck said.
If the Colts are going to improve on their 31st-ranked rushing attack from last year, they will need Richardson to play a major role in 2014.
