There are two prevailing opinions going around the Philadelphia camp regarding the quarterback situation: Chip Kelly needs to pick starting QB in the near future or a “worry about myself” attitude. Michael Vick has made clear his position on the issue.

“Hopefully, (coach) Chip (Kelly) makes a decision before training camp, and we won’t have to answer that question….so we can go out there as quarterbacks and just focus on this season and not answer questions about competition every day.”

That question being, “who is the starting quarterback come the start of the season?” While it makes sense that Vick, the previous starting QB, would want to know where he stands with the team, I think it’s a good thing Kelly hasn’t chosen yet. Making all the QB’s work hard all preseason, especially through training camp, to earn that starting spot will show a lot about their talent, character, and maturity. This should help Kelly a great deal when it comes to making that final decision.

On the other side of the debate are Eagles’ like running back LeSean McCoy. When it comes to the QB debate, McCoy falls on the opposite side of the fence than Vick.

“That’s why they pay Chip Kelly the big bucks, to pick the quarterback….Whoever he picks, I’m fine with. As long as I get my carries, I don’t care who they pick.”

While some may believe that this is a poor opinion to have, as McCoy will be the one working most closely with the QB on the field, I like the approach he has taken. Roster/depth chart decisions are not something that players should concern themselves with. They have neither the means nor the knowledge that coaches do when it comes to these choices and should worry about themselves and their own play. Regardless of what happens, when the season starts and the decision has been made, McCoy and the rest of the Eagles are going to have to adapt to whoever Kelly puts under center.
