Tyler Wilson signs with Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals announced today that they have signed free agent quarterback Tyler Wilson.

Coach Marvin Lewis said that the signing happened because Jason Campbell bruised his shoulder Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Geoff Hobson.   The Bengals lost 41-39 to the Chiefs in a shootout, with Campbell throwing a touchdown during the game.

Tyler Wilson was drafted in the fourth round by the Oakland Raiders last year but was unable to make the final 53 man roster.  Wilson was on the Raiders practice squad until December when the Tennessee Titans claimed him.  Then the Titans released him on Wednesday after he was reported as being “very bad”, in training camp.

Wilson will need to really impress if he has any shot of beating out any of his fellow quarterbacks for a spot on the final roster.  Including Campbell, once he returns from injury, there is Matt Scott and rookie AJ McCarron vying for a spot.

Marvin Lewis had this to say about Jason Campbell after the injury and what they would do in the meantime,

“We’ll see how Jason is.  Jason will rest (Saturday). He should be fine to get back to work next week, but we will just bring a quarterback … so we don’t have to rush him if he’s still sore.”

It is a long shot for Tyler Wilson to make this roster but he could possibly live up to the expectations he had coming out of Arkansas.
