Yesterday, during organized team activities, quarterback Mark Sanchez threw three interceptions in eleven passes. Later in the day, head coach Rex Ryan called Sanchez’s play during organized team activities, “unacceptable”. Today, Mike Freeman of CBSSports is reporting that an unnamed Jets player told him that 80 to 90 percent of the team is ready to see Mark Sanchez replaced as the starting quarterback.

“Everyone on the team likes Mark personally but there’s a general feeling among some of the players that maybe it’s time to give someone else a chance,” the player said.

If this comment is true, it looks like Mark Sanchez may not even begin the season as the team’s starting quarterback.

Personally, I would start Mark Sanchez, Matt Simms or Greg McElroy before Geno Smith. I do not think Smith is ready for the NFL or for playing in a city like New York. While I believe Geno Smith can be a capable NFL quarterback, I think the Jets would set him back by naming him the starter for week one. I think the former West Virginia quarterback needs a bit of time on the bench to learn the NFL game and understand the type of media attention he will receive in New York following a win or loss.

Is this unnamed Jets player correct? Should the team give someone else a chance? Is it over for Mark Sanchez in New York?
