Utah RB goes on football hiatus for mission trip
According to Utah’s coach Kyle Whittingham, sophomore running back Harvey Langi was having one of the most improved and better springs of any one on the team. However, it looks like all of that improvement was for naught.
According to ESPN’s Pac-12 blog, Langi will be leaving the team for two years to serve his Latter Day Saints mission. He will be headed to Florida later this month to start his mission.
Langi will rejoin the team in 2014. Utah did not comment on the situation further as it is against school policy. Langi had just 13 carries for 70 yards as a freshman last season but as Whittingham is quoted as saying, he improved since last season.
I have to say it takes a lot of guts and commitment to your religion to put your collegiate career on hold for two years in order to help others. Hopefully Langi’s future is still bright when he returns in 2014.
