Van Halen wants to play at the Super Bowl
Rock legends Van Halen, led by front man David Lee Roth, wish to fulfill a life long dream this year – playing the halftime show at the Super Bowl. With recent halftime shows playing more to the younger crowd and literally annoying and/or boring real football fans to death, Van Halen could be exactly what the Super Bowl needs.
“Van Halen’s collective memories are — and with all due respect to each and every one of these memories, teeming with been-theres and done-that’s, but none include playing at the Super Bowl. Playing at the Super Bowl is a veritable holy grail of musical recognition, a highly prized rite of passage for (game-changing) artists. Not a spiritual rite with snake pits or Hebrew school or anything, but it’s up there.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I would more than welcome Van Halen to the big stage. Classic rock acts make more sense in terms of meshing with football, much better than Madonna anyway. If Van Halen can get through the season without killing each other, let’s see if Roger Goodell proves he has some masculinity and puts them on the card. We all know Goodell doesn’t like hard hits or anything about football that makes it a man’s game, so maybe he can at least give us some manly halftime entertainment for the biggest show in sports.
