Could Vernon Davis be an Olympic curler in 2018?
While most fans know Vernon Davis as a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, most do not know that he is an honorary captain of the 2014 Men’s Olympic curling team. On Sunday, Davis spoke to NBC’s Al Davis about the idea of joining the curling team for the 2018 Olympics.
ProFootballTalk transcribed the interview between the pair on the topic of Davis becoming an Olympian.
“Could you become proficient enough to compete in curling in the 2018 Winter Olympics?” Michaels asked Davis.
“Hey, the sky’s the limit,” Davis said, smiling. “Anything’s possible.”
Asked Michaels: “So you will actually try to perfect it a little bit and see if you can make the team? Is that possible?”
Michaels smiled a little and leaned back in his chair.
“You know what? I think I will,” Davis said with a smile. “I think I will.
“That’s interesting,” Michaels said, smiling.
“I enjoy it,” Davis said, smiling.
Later, Michaels asked if there was a lot of trash talking in curling.
“No, not really,” Davis said, laughing.
Davis added, smiling: “Probably in 2018, you might see a lot of trash talking.”
Michaels laughed, as did Davis.
Vernon Davis will be 34-years-old when the 2018 Olympics come around and should still be playing in the NFL.
Becoming an Olympian may be one of the best ideas for a post NFL career. I could see Davis on the ice trying to tell his teammates when to sweep the ice (as you can tell, my knowledge of curling is top notch).
Hopefully, Davis is able to become a curler for a future Olympic event because I would love to see the 250 pound tight end on the ice.
