Vince Young attending Browns minicamp for a tryout
Vince Young is a quarterback who, despite playing decent during his career and having a winning record as a starter, hasn’t been able to find himself back in a starting role in a couple years. Many thought he would have a shot to start for the Buffalo Bills in 2012, and he didn’t even make it out of the preseason. He spent a portion of last season with the Green Bay Packers.
Now, Young once again will find himself in a position to at least compete for a backup role with the Cleveland Browns. He will be attending their voluntary minicamp on a tryout premise this week, and given the Browns other two options are Brian Hoyer and Alex Tanney, the interest in him isn’t exactly surprising. Hoyer showed flashes of talent last season, but is coming off a torn ACL.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is a native Tennessee guy, and let us not forget Young made the Pro Bowl twice as a Titan. While I doubt anyone thinks Young is the answer at quarterback for a starving franchise, if he can play anywhere close to the levels we’ve seen him on before, Young wouldn’t be a bad acquisition. Expect the Browns to select a quarterback somewhere in the draft as well to create competition this summer at their biggest position of need.
