Willie McGinest thinks Rob Gronkowski needs a Talkin’ to
Last week we brought you one of many stories involving Rob Gronkowski and his late-night-drunken-dancing-partying antics. Although he’s never been arrested, nor charged with anything, some people still want to put his social life under a microscope and question if he is the guy for the oft-calm New England Patriots.
It’s been mentioned by former coaches and players, and most recently – former Patriots DE Willie McGinest, who doesn’t like what Rob is doing it all, and claimed that had he still been on the team, he would have already had a sit-down with the star tight end about his nightlife. But since he’s not – someone on the team needs to, whether it be Tom Brady or even Wes Welker, McGinest is concerned.
“The only guy on that offense that could probably say anything is Tom,” McGinest said, via the Boston Herald. “He has the years in. Or maybe Wes (Welker). It has to be guys (Gronkowski is) around all the time. I don’t really know the dynamics of that team. Our defense and offense all coincided together. It didn’t matter who was talking. But a lot of their guys are young. Gronk’s young. It would have to be an elder statesman like Vince (Wilfork) or Tom (to speak up). Someone who’s been there for a while. But Tom might be the one. I’m sure someone will have a word with him.”
Now, I’m not in any capacity a member of the Patriots front office – but if I were, I wouldn’t be too much concerned with what Gronk does in his free time. He signed a contract based off what he’s done on the field. What he’s doing off the field, he’s been doing for years. He’s still at the top of his game and is a true professional when it comes to his work with the team.
He’s out with the ladies, dancing and having a good time. There is nothing wrong with that – until he starts getting arrested and getting in trouble with the law. He’s smart about how he does things, and never puts himself in serious jeopardy (Okay, a faux wrestling move in which he lands on his broken arm might be a bit questionable, but it’s not like he’s running around with a pistol shooting himself in the leg at nightclubs).
This isn’t the first time McGinest has spoken out about a fellow Patriot, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
Whatever the Patriots decide to do, I’m sure it’s already been done. I can almost guarantee Hoodie Bill has had a talk with Gronkowski in the past, and as long as he’s not out getting himself in trouble – and not hurting the team – there is no issues.
