In an interview with Colin Cowherd, ex-Detroit Pistons star John Salley made a bold statement: that Michael Jordan, widely considered the best basketball player ever, isn’t even in Salley’s top five players.
Here’s the interview:
Salley says that the best five players he ever played against were Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Kevin McHale. As a member of the record-setting 1995 Chicago Bulls team, the squad that won an all-time NBA-high 72 games, Salley played alongside Jordan, Scottie Pippen Toni Kukoc and Dennis Rodman. However, Salley then goes on to say that the best player he ever played with was Isaiah Thomas.
From the mouth of John Salley: Isaiah Thomas, not Michael Jordan, was the best player he ever played with. Certainly a bold statement from the Pistons’ all-time leader in blocked shots, a statement that is sure to cause some controversy.
