Four Fundamentals You Should Remember When Setting Up a Sports Pitch 4

Whether you are looking to create your own professional sports pitch in your yard, or you’re coaching a local sports team, setting up the sports pitch is a key step. If done incorrectly, then the entire game is thrown off. This is the case for football, hockey and even American sports like baseball all of which require the proper lines to be in place. Not only do you need to know the measurement side of things in terms of where the lines are placed, but you need the proper sports line marking equipment so it stays in place.

So, before you go forging ahead setting up a sports pitch, here are four fundamentals you’ll want to keep in mind.

Take the Time to Plan

One of the most important steps in setting up a sports pitch is to take the time to plan out your project. You need to take a look at the area you are working with so you can determine if any adjustments need to be made. You may need to level areas out first, take down fencing, the proximity of the neighbours (if applicable), deal with lighting, drainage, and even soil conditions.

When you are just building a sports pitch in your backyard it may not be quite as big of a project, but there will still be plenty to consider.

Draw Up a Design

After you take the time to visualise and plan out the sports pitch, it’s now time to draw up a design. The design should have all the specifics on it, including proper measurements. You may need to do a little research on the design aspect, depending on how knowledgeable you are in the sport you are building the pitch for.

Gather Your Materials

After completing the planning and design stage, you are ready to move on to gathering your materials. Again, this is an area that you want to take your time and do your research on. One area that people often race through without much thought is with the line marking material and equipment.

You want to be sure that you are using high-quality line paint as well as the proper equipment to apply it. If the lines are rubbing and wearing off the moment you start the game, then chances are you haven’t used a very good product.

Consider Irrigation

The final fundamental you will want to consider is irrigation. As long as you plan on using natural grass, then you’re going to need to find a way to keep it adequately watered. Well-maintained grass isn’t just about looks, it’s also necessary for the sport to be played properly.

Enjoy a Professional Sports Pitch

By keeping these four fundamentals in mind, you’ll be able to create and then enjoy a professional sports pitch. This helps to create a much better experience for the coaching staff and the players themselves who get to enjoy the well-planned and executed sports pitch.
