Royce White is an interesting player. He is as versatile as they come, and guys like him don’t roll around every year. How many people can play either front court position, run the offense as a point forward, and average 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block, all while shooting over 50% from the field?
Of course, there’s a reason that someone this talented slipped all the way to the Houston Rockets at pick number 16 in the NBA Draft. Royce White has pretty serious anxiety issues, which you can read more into here.
Now, reportedly, his anxiety is still haunting him.According to CBS Sports, Royce White is missing from Houston’s camp due to anxiety issues.
[White] told FOX 26 Sports the personal matters are related to the fact that he suffers from anxiety issues.
“We are trying to figure out a plan for me to be healthy and successful long-term,” White said. “It’s not really anything that’s going on right now. It’s more of trying to take a proactive approach and trying to put together a solid plan.
“It is definitely linked with my anxiety, sure, but it’s not so much as far as my anxiety now. Basically what happened was my doctor, we discussed it, and it was decided the way the plan was now just wasn’t logistically healthy.
This isn’t what any of us wanted to hear, especially the Rockets. Royce White has been struggling with this for a while, and everyone was rooting for him to do his best. The important thing here is that he can get himself taken care of, and then worry about basketball.
On the court, he is an extremely unique player. We’ll see if he can translate and adapt to the NBA game, but let’s just hope he takes care of his personal issues first.
