Floyd Mayweather hints at Pacquiao Super Fight
Boxing fans have long wanted to see a Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao superfight, but the boxing Gods haven’t set it up.
Talks of the two getting together for a fight were sweeping the internet before Pacquiao suffered a devastating KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, and the talks took a major step back. The Boxing community gave up all hope, and Mayweather wouldn’t even acknolwedge the Pacquiao references when asked about them.
Fast forward to now, and Manny Pacquaio is coming off a November 23rd win against Brandon Rios, and the WBC has listed Pacquiao as the next in line to take a shot at Mayweather.
Of course the WBC challenger list isn’t an official report on the two organizing a fight, but Mayweather recently sat down with Chris Robinson of MMAArtMartial.com and had some interesting comments.
“My focus is May 3rd. I don’t know who my opponent will be,” Mayweather said. “If it’s Pacquiao, it’s Pacquiao. If it’s Amir Khan, it’s Amir Khan.. I mean, for 17 years they’ve been putting guys in front of me, and I’ve been beating them. Come May they’ll put a guy in front of me, I’ll go to training camp, work hard, and the results will be the same.”
That’s the first time Mayweather has acknowledged Pacquiao as a potential opponent in quite a while.
Stay tuned for updates on the story. For Boxing fans everywhere, and even those that aren’t boxing fans – this could be the fight of a lifetime, and it will be fun to watch IF it happens.
