Former All-American Texas A&M Aggies running back Darren Lewis was arrested Tuesday for armed robbery of a Duncanville (TX) 7-11. Duncanville is a SW suburb of Dallas where Lewis was a high school star at David W. Carter High School. Other Carter alumni include All-Pro Jessie Armstead, and current players WR Michael Crabtree and OL DeMarcus Love.
According to the Dallas Morning News, around 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Lewis demanded money from the clerk, who was subsequently shot in the thigh after refusing the request. The employee was taken to a nearby hospital (recovering) while the Texas law caught up with Lewis by Wednesday.
After a stellar college career amassing over 5,000 yards and becoming the all time leading rusher at Texas A&M (and 14th all time), Lewis was a disappointment in the NFL, tallying only 412 yards over three seasons for the Chicago Bears.
