Bills DE Mario Williams Named ‘AFC Defensive Player of the Week’ 66

After his 4.5 sacks vs. the Carolina Panthers, Mario Williams was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Williams, who was signed by the Bills before the 2012 season, under-performed last season only gaining 46 total tackles, 10.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He had a season high 3 sacks against Andrew Luck and the Colts.

Many Bills fans feel Williams was grossly overpaid. Williams signed a six-year contract, worth up to $100 million, with $50 million guaranteed, which makes him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history.

Williams’ biggest problem, when he played for the Houston Texans, was consistency. The Bills hope that after a tremulous off season, one coupled with nagging injuries and a nasty public divorce, “Super” Mario finally has his head on straight. WHen interviewed after Sunday’s game against the Panthers, Williams talked about his mental and physical health.

“Physically, I feel great and mentally I’m better than ever. I’m just going out there and playing ball, staying calm. I’m probably one of the calmest persons you’ll ever meet. I just go out there and try to make it happen.”

Congratulations Mario Williams on being the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
