Kobe Bryant was told this week that he will be re-evaluated in three weeks regarding his knee injury due to continued pain and swelling.
Three weeks from now, the Lakers will only have 17 regular season games left before Kobe can hope to return to practice.
With no hope for the playoffs in Lakers future this season, it would seem illogical for Bryant to come back and play this season, even if he was cleared for action. Despite this, and in true Kobe Bryant fashion, he says he will still play if given the chance.
When asked of his hopes of playing Bryant had this to say “Just try to get better and then go from there. I just try to focus, keep my blinders on and just do what I have to do and not worry too much about what’s going on around you.”
Kobe is known for his competitive nature, and it only seems right to think that if he is healthy he would want to help his team. However, the Lakers are a disappointing 19-36, and headed for the draft lottery in one of the deepest draft classes since 2003.
The Lakers signed Kobe to a two year contract extension this past summer. In the past two years, injuries have made Kobe and the rest of basketball fans doubt if he can come back in all-star form.
If Bryant does in fact come back this season, he may risk further injury in a season where the Lakers have really struggled. However, he may come back 100% and use those 17 or so games to get his confidence back on the court. Only time will tell.
