After getting injured in the pre-season and losing his starting job to Geno Smith, things just keep getting tougher for Mark Sanchez.
According to Ian Rappaport on twitter and Gregg Rosenthal on NFL.com, Mark Sanchez will have surgery on his torn labrum after attempting rehab first.

Sanchez plans to put off the surgery for a few more weeks, but either way the recovery time is between 4 and 6 months. His season is certainly over. Unfortunately for the Jets, they have already put Sanchez on Injured Reserve with designation to return. The team is only allowed one player on IR to be designated to return and the team burned it up on Sanchez, who now WON’T be returning.
The man who lead Rex Ryan’s Jets to two straight AFC Championship games has two years left on his contract will probably be released at season’s end. The transition to Geno Smith began in April and seems to have only taken until the end of September to be complete.
This is Geno’s team now, and it looks like Mark Sanchez has simply run out of luck.
