Mitch Kupchak has “no regrets” in signing Steve Nash 0

Steve Nash’s career seems to be coming to a forced end, and the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be the butt of a very bad joke, after signing Nash to a three-year deal in 2012.

The Lakers acquired Nash, from the Phoenix Suns, for the price of first rounders in 2013 and 2015 and second rounders in 2013 and 2014. They also gave Nash a three-year deal worth roughly $9 million per season.

The allure of Nash, Kobe, Dwight Howard, and Pau Gasol was too much to pass of for Lakers’ general manager, Micth Kupchak, but Nash has brought nothing but injury to the Lakers. Despite the agony of this failed experiment, Kupchak says that he has “no regrets” concerning this move.

“No regrets,” Kupchak said. “We had a chance. You have to recognize where you are as a franchise. We felt we had a two year window, maybe three to go for a championship. That’s what we did. Looking back on it, which nobody can do, that’s a different story. But at the time, we knew exactly what we were doing.”

I guess we can all agree that the Lakers looked dangerous on paper, but the failed operation to quickly contend has bitten the Lakers, and left fans angry. Could a youth movement be on the horizon in Hollywood?
