Pittsford, NY- According to sportingnews.com, Veteran quarterback, Kevin Kolb will start at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills in their preseason game Friday night against the Minnesota Vikings.
After practice Wednesday night, Buffalo Bills head coach, Doug Marrone, announced that journeyman QB Kevin Kolb will start the Bills
second preseason game Friday night at Ralph Wilson Stadium against The Minnesota Vikings.
Kolb, who is competing with rookie 1st round pick EJ Manuel for the starting quarterback job, did not play in Buffalo’s first preseason game because of a left knee injury and lack of practice due to being out of town for a death in the family.
Bills fans, don’t read too much into this. This is not a reflection against Manuel in the slightest. Marrone went on to say:
“Kevin probably would have started the first game if he wasn’t injured or hurt, and EJ would have come in and then EJ would have started this game, but because of injury, obviously EJ started and I’m going to get Kevin his start. You can’t call it a competition and then all of the sudden not have the quarterbacks getting those starts.”
Kolb “bumped” his knee after slipping on a wet mat while walking from practice field to practice field, a little over a week ago. Shortly after, Kolb left camp to return home to attend a funeral for a family member. Kolb did dress for the 1st preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, but only as the emergency QB.
Kolb returned to practice this past Monday in position drills only. However, he took a big step in playing in 11 on 11 drills Wednesday night. I was in attendance Wednesday night and it did not look like his knee was bothering him at all. Kolb actually looked comfortable moving around in the pocket. He even scrambled on a few plays.
I quarterback competition would not be a competition if both players did not start at least one game each. No need to worry Ej fans. He will get his time.
