Former NBA center Vlade Divac gave his take on the 2013-2014 Los Angeles Lakers during a recent interview. Divac’s opinion on the Lake Show may be considered extremely optimistic, but I’d go with delusional, personally. Seeing that most sports betting websites have anywhere from 10-12 teams with better odds to win the NBA championship, I think Vlade may be a bit off with his assessment.
But that isn’t all Divac, who use to play for the Lakers, stated. The 45-year-old Serbian also thinks Kobe Bryant will come back and be as strong as he was last season.
“The Los Angeles Lakers are an elite team and I’m sure they’re going to do better than last year. It’s not going to happen two years in a row to have a bad season.
“The Lakers are going to be definitely one of those teams that can win the championship next year.”
Asked if Bryant can come back just as strong as last season, Divac said: “Yeah I do. I do.
“I had the opportunity to work with him and he’s one of those guys that gives 100 per cent on the floor so I’m sure he’s going to be back and the injury’s going to be in the past.”
Divac is certainly entitled to his opinion and he played in the league a long time. But relying on 35-year-old Kobe Bryant – coming off of a devastating Achilles injury, to lead the Lakers to the promise land, may be a much taller order than Divac realizes. I suppose I shouldn’t rule out a late season trade, but unless the Lakers bring in more help, I highly doubt they will be contending for a title.
