The Golden State Warriors recently fired head coach Mark Jackson, and it looks like they organization is not wasting any time when it comes to finding his replacement.
One of the names that has been linked to the job is Stan Van Gundy, and Marc Spears of Yahoo! can confirm that the team has already contacted him. Via Yahoo:
The Golden State Warriors contacted Stan Van Gundy about their head-coaching vacancy on Wednesday, a source told Yahoo Sports.
The former Orlando Magic and Miami Heat coach has interest in the Warriors’ opening, but an interview has yet to be set up. Golden State fired head coach Mark Jackson on Tuesday after three seasons and two playoff appearances. Van Gundy’s interest also speaks to the attractiveness of the Warriors’ job. He has not shown interest in coaching openings with the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves, a source said.
We haven’t seen much from Van Gundy since his Orlando days, but there would certainly be worse hires if you’re Golden State.
Regardless of who the team decides to go with, this team should be in strong position to compete next year. The roster will likely look the same, and with some development and a few minor tweaks, Golden State should be very good once again.
