Hornets Brand Could Come Home to Charlotte

After yesterday’s announcement that the New Orleans Hornets will change their name to the Pelicans (their new logos are pretty awesome), the Charlotte Bobcats have gone to work, toying with the idea of reclaiming their old identity, the Charlotte Hornets.

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that the Bobcats are using a polling company, Harris Interactive, to conduct a questionnaire among their current season ticket holders and Charlotte locals. It seems that most fans, by a large margin according to the Charlotte Observer’s online poll, would love to see the Hornets name move back to North Carolina. The organization is researching to see if it will actually drive enough ticket and merchandise sales to justify the change only one year after redesigning their Bobcats’ image.

All this comes just a few days after the Sacramento Kings announced that they would sell to a Seattle-based group. The relocation papers for a move back to Seattle (by next season) are expected to be filed by March 1st, and the Sonics brand could be back in business. Oh how things change, but stay the same.
