In a story that will remind you that some athletes still have some genuine kindness in them, Jake Peavy is donating $100 to cancer research for every strikeout in the MLB today. Yes, that means league-wide, not just in his game.
This is all according to Darryl Van Schouwen, one of the White Sox beat writers for the Chicago Sun Times.
To add to this, Peavy went out to the mound today and struck out 11 batters in a complete game loss to the New York Yankees. Clearly, he’s taking the whole thing pretty seriously.
In a world where professional athletes are constantly getting arrested for various acts of stupidity, it’s very refreshing to see something like this from a guy like Jake Peavy. Some will say that athletes are “obligated” to donate money just because they have it, but at the end of the day, $100 for every strikeout in the MLB on any given day is a lot of money.
Peavy is 6-5 with a 2.96 ERA for the Chicago White Sox this season.
